Day 1

Discovering Acadian Culture at the Village Historique Acadien!
  Start your day with a visit of the historical site. At noon, take this opportunity to savour a delicious traditional Acadian meal at La table des ancêtres, in an 1855 house.

  Relax in the evening, with dinner in Caraquet and spend the night in one of the hotel, motel, B&B, cottages in the Greater Caraquet area.
After a day like this, Acadian culture will have no secrets for you!


Day 2

Travel Greater Caraquet, Cultural Capital!
  Several choices are available to make your morning worthwhile. Visit:
  • Les Blancs d'Arcadie in Caraquet
  • The Acadian Museum in Caraquet
  • The Popes' Museum in Grande-Anse (www.museedespapes.com)
  • Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage Shrine in Caraquet

  •   In the afternoon, if the weather is favourable, enjoy a day on the beach. Here are the beaches that may be found in the Greater Caraquet area. The choice is yours!
  • Grande-Anse Beach
  • Grande-Anse Wharf Beach
  • Maisonnette Park Beach
  • Foley Beach in Caraquet
  • Bas-Caraquet Municipal Beach
  • Marina Beach in Bas-Caraquet

  •   Upon returning from the beach, you might stop at the Économusée de l'huître in Caraquet for a guided tour. You may also savour some delicious oysters.

      In the evening, take a cruise on board the ship Ile Caramer I anchored at the Carrefour de la Mer. You will discover the sea bed and the beauty of Chaleur Bay. You will also hear stories about fishing in Acadia.

      Before boarding, you will be invited for a visit of the Day Adventure Centre on the same location.       For theatre lovers, performances may be attended at the following locations:

  •   Relaxation is in order for your second evening in Acadia. You may stay at various accommodations in Greater Caraquet area.
    After two days spent in the Caraquet area, you will be acquainted with the charm and hospitality of the people.


    Day 3

    Open Your Horizons on the Acadian Peninsula - Shippagan!
      Weigh anchor and explore further! After a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast, why not get acquainted with the blue lobster at the Aquarium and Marine Centre (www.gnb.ca/aquarium) in Shippagan. You will also learn about the beauties of marine life and the history of fishing in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. (Approximstely 30 minutes from Caraquet.)

      Take this opportunity to savour appetizing dishes in a neighbouring restaurant at lunch-time.

      A fishing tour is awaiting you in the afternoon. Departure is at the Shippagan Marina, on the site of the Aquarium and Marine Centre. Le Nord d'Est V and Captain Michel Boudreau, will provide you with wonderful and unforgettable fishing stories.

      Back in town, follow the 1.8-kilometre (one-mile) boardwalk, known as Sentier Rivage, along the harbour.

      What better than a good seafood meal in a local restaurant to round up the evening and to continue with the day's theme?
    A good night's rest is a must! You may drop in at one of the area's guest accommodations.

    This day has introduced you to aquatic animal life and the wonderful seascapes of the Acadian coast!



    Day 4

    Open Your Horizons on the Acadian Peninsula - Lamèque - Miscou!
      Another lovely day of activities in sight! To start the day on a good note, pay a visit to the Eco-Parc in Lamèque (www.eco-parc.com). You will discover many representative elements of the Acadian Peninsula's wildlife, along an interpretation path in the forest. (Lamèque is approximately 10 minutes from Shippagan.)

      At lunch-time, why not have a picnic on the rocks of Cap-Bateau, a spot worth discovering.

      In the afternoon, explore Miscou Island. You may stroll along a peaceful walkway on a peat bog and visit a historical monument, the Miscou Lighthouse, built in 1856.

      What about beach enthusiasts! Miscou offers you warm sandy beaches inviting you for a dip in the water. Several are on hand:
  • Adrien Gionet Beach
  • Central Beach
  • Lanteigne Ward Beach
  • Fox Den Beach
  • Wilson Point Beach

  •   Upon your return from Miscou, you can make a brief stop at Petite-Rivière-de-l'Île to visit Sainte-Cécile church. Built in 1813, it is renowned for its architecture and its acoustic. The church will surprise young and old with its colourful interior.

      In the evening, you may lodge comfortably in one of the area's guest accommodations and enjoy a good meal.
    You will remain under the spell of the islands' pristine beauty!


    Day 5

    Open Your Horizons on the Acadian Peninsula - Tracadie - Sheila!
      Several activities are offered for you in the morning. A visit at the Historical Museum in Tracadie to learn more about the ancient leper colony, a little dip in the water slides, a visit to the Farmers' Market if you happen to be around Saturday morning. Fine beaches are also to be found around Tracadie. (Tracadie is a 25 minute drive from Shippagan.)
  • Val Comeau Beach
  • Bastien Factory Beach

  •   In the afternoon, climb aboard the Cajun for a two-and-a-half-hour cruise along the Acadian coast, on the Lien des deux rivières. You will be enchanted by history-rich sites having a fantastic ecosystem.

      In the evening, you may enjoy your meal on an outdoor terrace or in one of the area's fine restaurants and spend the night in a neighbouring guest facility.
    Tracadie-Sheila: adventures by day, atmosphere by night!


    Day 6

    Open Your Horizons on the Acadian Peninsula - Peninsula Centre!
      A day in the centre of the Acadian Peninsula could very well get under way with a game of golf at the Club de golf Pokemouche. It has an 18-hole course.

      For those who are not golf fans, may we suggest a visit to the Galerie d'Art McGraw in Pokemouche.

      In the afternoon, why not pay a visit to the Parc d'interprétation de la nature in Saint-Isidore or sail down the Pokemouche River in a canoe or a kayak. The river presents an extraordinary landscape in the summer and even more so in the fall, when trees have taken on their magnificent hues.

      In the evening, you may enjoy a tasty meal in one of the neighbouring restaurants or move on to Paquetville, a charming place you have not discovered yet, where good restaurants are found.

      For accommodations, you have a choice: being in the centre of the Peninsula, you are at a 20-minute drive from the main towns and villages you have already visited.
    Another well-spent day - but it's not over yet!


    Day 7

    Open Your Horizons on the Acadian Peninsula - Neguac!
      For your last day in the Acadian Peninsula, Neguac will be your destination. (Neguac is a 30-minute drive from Tracadie-Sheila.)

      To start your day, we suggest that you roll up your sleeves and muck in. You will learn the secrets of bread-making at the Pain du Pays d'Acadie bakery, with its outdoor oven and its bakers in period costumes.

      At noon-time, you may taste traditional Acadian specialties such as "poutine râpée", fish cakes and "poutine à la mélasse".

      Spend the afternoon surrounded by the waves! Take the causeway taking you to Île-au-Foin; here you will discover the history of Neguac. You may swim in the sheltered cove, in some of the warmest salt water north of Virginia. You will also have an opportunity to do some bird-watching from a tower overlooking Miramichi Bay and set out in a canoe or a kayak along the placid waters of Tabusintac River, or take a cruise to Portage Island of the Neguac sand dunes.
    In the evening, take your pick from the reputed local restaurants!

    There you are! You have been all around the Acadian Peninsula, but you may stay for a spell… To admire the sunsets, stretch out on warm sandy beaches or savour delicious seafood dishes… The longer you stay, the better the experience!
